Visiting Crosby for the second time in 6 years

Well tomorrow we go to visit my sister. This will be a real boost for her. We will stay in the [exquisite] Golden Hub Motel since they have a small one bedroom house. There is nothing quite like small town North Dakota in December!

As far as I know her radiation treatments have had good results. After Saturday's appointment she may have some idea about the chemotherapy plan.

When we get back I will post an update and also let our various cousins know.

PRAISE GOD and the medical knowledge He has revealed

Well Deb is not out of the woods by any means but the radiation has stopped the progression of the cancer on her spine.
THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN PRAYING!
GOD HAS HEARD YOUR PETITIONS.
I will avoid medical and treatment details but I am very encouraged even though there is still a very uncertain path ahead. Please remember to pray for Bill's strength and refreshing as he cares for her and their home. Pray that he will be strengthened for his work and he will remain healthy.
God is so good. He has met me in a time of need. Thank you to those who have touched me and provided support.

A Mixed Saturday Report

Well getting Colleen to work was pretty uneventful and because Fuddrucker's parking lot was full I decided to come home and make my own breakfast. Well about 5 minutes after we left Debbie's husband Bill called to say she was in Minot receiving radiation treatment. WHAT!

Bill, Deb's husband, took Debbie to Minot hospital emergency Thursday night and she had 2 radiation treatments yesterday and will have 2 more today. Minot is about 2 hours from Crosby. Deb did not have strength to move her legs on Thursday evening. the short version is that after seeing doctors in Crosby Bill drove Deb to Minot and the MRI showed cancer in her lungs, breasts and spine. The spinal attack is the most immediate concern and creates a treatment by treatment prognosis.

There is hope and the Dr suggested she may go home for Christmas and return for additional treatments. She was sounding good this morning. I am sure Bill is exhausted, hurting and yet focused on the activity at hand.

It remains day by day, treatment by treatment. With the variety of aches in our hearts it continues to amaze and comfort me how there is ABSOLUTELY no sense of hopelessness.

God reigns!

After talking with Deb I called our sister in law in Kansas City who has successfully beaten cancer twice. So after I messed up her day she was able to report that my brother has been sober for 2 years! Things have a long way to go but the mixture of challenges and successes show God's sovereignty and provision.

Please pray for wisdom and clarity of thought for the medical staff; strength for Deb, Bill and those of us that are able to provide support; patience and diligence for those that support us.

One thought to wrap up for now. As I have gone through this past week people have offered a variety of supporting and comforting words. I have found the most support and encouragement from those words that had nothing to do with the reality of cancer, it's cause or prognosis. I haven't quite sorted out my range of thoughts but I realized I have been seeking comfort not explanation.

Life seemed pretty ordinary until Sat morning

Yep a full month since my last post.

My sister called Saturday morning to confirm that she has been diagnosed with cancer. It will be a couple weeks before she is able to meet with a doctor in Bismarck ND to review the CT scans and biopsy results. Now that I've talked with Melissa I will provide updates as they are available. Debbie and her husband Bill are doing quite well in the situation and will appreciate all the prayers.

It makes my concerns seem insignificant. Well at least for a while then my concerns take over my mind and I struggle to think and feel the way I know is God's desire for me. Please pray for me that I can be the support my sister needs. She lives a 5 hour drive away.

As Colleen and I go through this (joyous?) Christmas season I try to interpret the ache I feel in my heart so I can better understand God's desire for relationship with us. Please pray that Melissa will be sustained with a joyous heart, good times and good work. Please pray for Jay & Julie that their hearts and minds will be softened so that our relationship can be healed and restored.

I truly wish that all of you will be able to experience the happiness and expectation that Christmas represents. God sent Jesus to earth as a baby so we can experience the innocence of birth and the forgiveness that His sacrifice on the cross provides for each of us. Life sure has its contrasts! Joy, sorrow, forgiveness, thankfulness.

Please don't feel sorry for me. Treasure your loved ones and LET THEM KNOW IT.

Boy, I'm just about maxed out on my sadness capacity...................................Oh well tears won't hurt me.

A feet up Saturday

My brain and body didn't act like I just had a day off last Monday. So after taking Colleen to work this morning I went back to bed and slept for most of an hour.

Man I'm wearing out easily these days! Please pray for Colleen's tolerance. Oh and my refreshing. The strike is now 2 weeks old and even though it seems to make my workload a bit lighter I am finding it very tiring. And I don't have the stress on my income that the strikers have; they must be exhausted!

We had another dusting of snow this morning. It might be the one to stay. We may only have the occasional day above freezing until March. I am so thankful for our warm house.

Luv & hugs to each of you.

ELECTION 2007

Well my first time to vote and my guy won. I didn't think I would be that influential!

come on take the bait.......................

Now we just have to wait and see how a different group of politicians can look after our interests.

The CUPE Strike 2007

I certainly don't understand the issues fully but it seems both sides have now lost more that either might have gained. Sure there are some long term issues but the reality most of the employees are only able to survive the short term effects anyway.

GET BACK TO THE BARGAINING!

STOP TRYING TO BETTER THE OTHER PARTY!

REBUILD THE UNIVERSITY!

ARGH

Well the strike does have effect on me but in many ways its been minimal. Today my Friday 'career' meeting was postponed indefinitely! Argh, I never thought I would want such a major meeting to get over with.

Oh well, trust in God's guidance, right?

I have become aware of a few more dear friends in need of major prayer support. I remind each of you that stop by to pause and pray for those that come to mind. God is using you!

Not so random thoughts

Please pray for Dave and Elma Dennis' family I understand he had a heart attack Monday.

Pray for Melissa, several things are changing. one dog has been adopted, there are some developments with her current and future jobs.

Pray for the University community. The issues leading to the strike are complex.

Thanks for your prayers. I realized my whole body was tense last week. your prayers have helped me relax.

Pray for Jay, Julie and Alex. For clarity and receptiveness to reconciliation and healing.

Pray for all those young parents out there so they can see the humour in their kids to help through the times when tired reigns.

Remember God is GOOD. Look for Him and his involvement in your life today.

Am I different today?

Rose thank you for sharing that my posts have encouraged you. That in turn encourages me.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support for Colleen and me.

I find it curious, interesting, thought provoking that today's church service fully aligned with me. Each component connected with me, built me up, gave cause for rejoicing, feeling God or stimulated pondering. Seeing Corwin lead worship is like seeing one of my own kids leading. JP edges him out, but it's close. Dr. Barbour's, okay Lee's, message triggered a curious hunger.
Was I different? Maybe! Was the service different? I'm not sure it was. Maybe it was the french fries and gravy for breakfast!?
Most of the video or speaking resonated with me instead of disconnecting me. It seemed there was none of the too loud or hard to understand words in the worship music, but it wasn't quiet. And it's not like I've had or am going to have an easy week. Job action by one union at work means my work was very different last week and I suspect most of this week. Provincial election on Wed. Big career meeting scheduled for Friday morning. Maybe it's because my newly found cousin is praying for me in a different way than all of you are able? Steven and I have discovered several parallels. But not all, neither of us need to unload that much yet!
Well lots to think about and through. Feel free to comment........
Or share thoughts.
God is mysteriously comforting me.

Alexander Raymond Wriston is a real charmer!

According to his hairdresser!
Yep Colleen has the same hairdresser as J, J & A. They were in a couple weeks ago and he is the only 2 year old that will sit for a haircut. Just that big charming smile!

Nice to hear, but also hard to only hear.

May God provide happiness and peace for all of you today.

I found the musically talented me!

Well actually my namesake. Meet another Steven Wriston at http://www.myspace.com/living_sacrifices. He's about 12 years younger than me. We are probably related through our great, great grandfathers but may not be able to confirm it because people just didn't track those things 125 years ago.

Interesting and exciting that we are both involved in active church ministry. I'll get to know him a bit over the next few months.

People who touched my life today, maybe I touched theirs

God, Colleen, Melissa, Ernest, Katherine, Kyle and Robin, Gerry, Erma, Madeline, Deb, Lorraine, Russ, Quentin, Mobey, 12 2 & 3 year olds, Dave, Lois, James, Erica, Madeline,Karen, Jim, Laura Lee, Danielle, Carter, Paige, Robyn, Easton, Jackson, Quinn, Colin, Graeme, Justice, Dallas, Christian, Simon, Mitchell, Travis, Megan, Mac, Aidan, Joel, Mike, Gord, Vanessa, Dean, Sharaya, Dwight, our server at Tomas the Cook, the cook, the cashier, Sobey's staff.

A couple conversation interpretations:
Sometimes we need to set aside our experience and expertise so we can enjoy what is here and available to us.

We can keep trying every day. Some days one try is enough and some days need many try agains.

This one's for Linda (and other friends)

Tonight was Pastor Dean's first message at Lakeview since April. He is doing well and is on a long journey of healing to renew physical and spiritual health.

There have been many painful events in our collective lives in the last year or so but I challenge each of you to instead think of the good things and PRAISE GOD. He holds each of us more dearly than we can imagine.

Those painful times are hard. When the pain subsides I am able to hear God helping me learn. On stronger days I can hear God's comforting words in the midst of the pain. I am so fortunate that my pain is not physical even though the anguish or turmoil doesn't seem much less or easier.

Food for thought.....just saw a TV show with a gay man asking "How can it be a sin if God made me this way?" I'm not sure that I agree with that. I believe God only makes a person heterosexual. But that doesn't help me understand the physical reality of birth defects of whatever type or nature.

GOD IS SO MYSTERIOUS

Wow has it only been a week

This week I have been encouraged by all of you. Thank you for your prayers and the interest you take in my and Colleen's lives.

The update is that getting into Pearson Airport at midnight and then getting a taxi to the hotel and up in time to be at an 8:30 meeting leaves me tired. Then adding 1 1/2 days of intensive document studying and thinking and another night of poor sleep results in Colleen getting a night of me snoring!

Life is good. Friends, good church stuff, Jesus in my heart, a wife who loves me and is my companion, a fantastic, adventurous daughter. Oh and Easton thought Power Hour was good this week.

Life is real. Work uncertainty continues for a few more weeks, relationship with Jay, Julie & Alex, my diligence and integrity, Pastor Dean's return message.

Monday, October 15, 2007

Another week, another post, another challenge!

Yesterday it looked like I didn't have any boys in my small group so I was ready to just hang out for a bit and then go visit with adults. But Easton wasn't sure he wanted to stay so he and I just chatted a bit and then joined in during Large Group time. Good thing because one of my favourite guys, Vincent, got there a bit late and he was waiting for us in the Theatre.

Easton felt Power Hour was boring. It was probably just that his brother wasn't there. Although he did figure he could learn about people in the Bible and how Jesus wants to live in his heart by listening to his Mom & Dad and reading his Bible. WOW INSIGHTFUL FOR GRADE 1. Mom & Dad, he needs help finding his Bible.

Its a good thing I had them and Colleen to encourage me yesterday because today I scheduled a Nov 9th meeting to discuss the future of my role at work. Here comes reassignment or early retirement. Much of me isn't stressed, but the tension in my temples, jaws and shoulders tell the truth.

Good thing I get to go to Mississauga and deal with Church Doctrine Friday and Saturday. It will help me refocus on God's provision and grace.

Anybody want to trade places for a couple weeks?

Not so Random thoughts

I've been thinking about the impact of various things on our lives. Yeah family love and all the things I am thankful for but also our responsibility and effect on things eternal. No I'm not sick or anything just pondering my Christian response to a variety of things I have trouble agreeing with.

Adam Beach commented this morning "This is my faith I am dealing with". Hmmm, that's true. So all the other stuff needs to be in the context of my faith walk. So as I am concerned about various artist bookings in our church auditorium "sanctuary" is that about my faith or is it something else. I'm sorting that out.

What should my response be as an ambassador for Christ? As I wait on developments with my job, work with children and youth? My daily reading?

Well just sharing some of my processing. Results are pending.

So as each of us are wondering about things we MUST make sure we are attending to our spiritual wellbeing. And remember to be honest and diligent.

WELCOME TO OCTOBER

1 week to Thanksgiving, unless you live in the USA

4 1/2 weeks to November.

3 months to 2008!

Happy now?

Well ordinary life isn't that boring

We've been back from our Minneapolis escape for almost 2 weeks now.

let's see:
worked,
reshingled the roof with the help of friends and family, well family that are friends,
worked, although reshingling was REAL WORK,
got another season of ZOU underway, Jr Hi kids are great
Public meetings with church Board,
struggled with some concerts booked at the church, Matthew Good, Tegan and Sara, Kalan Porter,

So how do you respond appropriately to events you can't influence yet present a very public perception? How do you deal with the incompatibility of an artist's public performance and church views? Your personal views? Bad administrative decisions? (in my humble opinion)

learned of a former Pastor relocating to Spokane,
prayed for friends,
Colleen's Mom's 84th birthday
attended Anna Miller's memorial service, she was 94
reconnected with Gerry & Sharron and Kori after 15 years. He was 60 this year! I'm getting older,
Dinner at John's Prime Rib.

Yep, regular life is simple. yeah right.

Me and my cousin Theresa and her daughter Whitney

And more walking and sightseeing

this was across the river from Downtown Minneapolis near the St. Anthony Falls.

And on the bridge on our return trek.
This was in one of the buildings connected by the Skywalk system. It flowed from the top down
2 floors to this bubbling basin below. Pretty cool and not much splashing.

Minneapolis day 2 and night 3

Too old and tired to give all the details. Covered way too many miles on foot today. AND had computer issues so details took a few days.

here are some of the walking pictures

Minneapolis night 2

Just for those that thought we were old and tired ----

http://www.hardrock.com/locations/cafes3/cafes.aspx?LocationID=49&MenuID=15&MIBEnumID=3

Pretty hard to tell those are taillights from a car. No I'm not sitting on the street it is suspended from the ceiling over the bar.

The steak I had was great and the smashed potatoes had a merlot gravy (absolutely stunningly delicious). Colleen had a BIG pork chop that was delicious too.

Then we walked the 8 or so blocks back to the hotel. stopped past the Panera Bakery for some Sunday morning brkfst treats. http://www.panerabread.com/cafes/map.php

Minneapolis day 1

We were going to Hell's Kitchen for breakfast but the 1 1/2 hour wait was a bit too long so we ate at the News Room. Colleen took these photos. http://thenewsroommpls.com/home.aspx
I'm not sure what the mermaid is holding.

Then we did some sight seeing.......

at Walgreen's, Macy's and Target

Minneapolis night 1

Well after a 3 hour departure delay we have had a good supper.

We met a couple old friends on the plane, well not that old, Chris who used to work with Campus Crusade and Ray Mieklejohn.
Take a look at the room, well actually suite at the Best Western Normandy Inn.

Steve is Canadian too

Well between 3&4 pm today I was one of 88 people that pledged allegiance to Canada and Queen Elizabeth to become Canadian citizens. We had camera issues so here I am receiving my congratulations. The formal pose flopped. I could have at least looked at Colleen.

Now I wonder how many days before I get letters and calls from every politician. That may be the only time I shake hands with 2 RCMP officers too. I've seen a few through the driver's window.

Storms around the world

Well right now there is Super Typhoon Sepat that is larger than Taiwan getting ready to go past Melissa's house. Lots of rain and wind.

And we have had Severe Thunderstorm warnings and rainfall warnings most of the evening and through the night. Lots of rain.

It's neat to chat with Melissa and compare weather.

Changes at Lakeview Church

A few people will know and others will find out on Sunday that 2 staff members have resigned. Please pray for me and others as we meet Saturday morning to discuss near term plans and actions. I trust we will also be able to see a path to restoration.

As you can guess there is much more to this than I am telling and much more than I know. Please be praying for all those directly and indirectly involved and affected.

God WILL be glorified in all things. The muddy tracks are often so visible we cannot see God's hand. Please pray for insight and wisdom.

Melissa's on her way home

Yep Kaohsiung is home.

We had a nice last day, lunch at Eastside Mario's and a 4:30 flight. It never gets easier to say bye. Certainly gets different with 5 1/2 years of practise and maybe not as hard, but not easy. She'll get home Thursday morning or our Wednesday night. When she crosses the International Date Line she will have had about 5 hours of the 15th and then it will be the 16th!

It was GREAT visit. It had some low points with Jay & Julie, but so many other wonderful times were had with a WIDE variety of family and friends. Melissa even got to attend the Satellite Willow Creek Leadership Summit at Lakeview. Visits with friends and family in Saskatoon, Regina, PA, Arlington Beach. Visitors were in Saskatoon at the same time from Belfast, Moose Jaw, Ontario, Australia, B.C.. Melissa got several good visits with Parker & Shawna, The Tea Ladies, and a couple old roommates. Why at the airport she even met someone she knew returning to Kaohsiung on the same flight!

Well the saga continues, these farewells are so physically draining......................nap time.

Thursday, August 09, 2007

ANSWERED PRAYER

I've been part of the prayer team for the Summit and this afternoon as we met the others prayed for healing of my foot and ankle which has been bothering me for about 6 weeks. As the afternoon progressed I have had less stiffness and pain. Hallelujah!

Some stiffness remains, but most of the sharp pain is gone. Now I only have to get used to my new orthotic inserts and the big toenail that I folded back yesterday doing Summit furniture setup. I haven't noticed the toe hurting much, but now that my foot and leg don't hurt I may be able to nice the toe! Well that's better than many get to deal with. A friend's mother, Anna Miller, passed away this past week and another long time friend, Lucille Francis, passed away this last week too.

Please continue to pray for those in your lives and around who need to feel encouragement and strength.

Another week another Saga

Well Life sure continues!

Last week we had the Christian wedding for Heather and Vincent, they were married in a civil ceremony in Taipei a year ago. It was beautiful day at the Berry Barn and a nice reception at the Bessborough Terrace Room.

A pretty uneventful long weekend, but we did get in another family gathering with various visiting families. Which reminds me of the quick visit we got with Milford, Ruby and their daughter Alana a few Sundays ago. They're living in Colorado Springs and she and her husband live in San Diego.

This week Lakeview church is one of the satellite sites for the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, http://www.growingleadership.com/Conferences/NEWSummit07/lead07/index.asp. Colleen and I are up at 5:30 each morning! the price of satellite feed from Chicago! Sure glad I don't live farther west.

One step from citizenship

Life's frustrations and challenges feel fairly small today. PRAISE GOD!

Most will be surprised to find out I am not a Canadian citizen. On Wednesday I completed the second last step. My documents and identity are confirmed! Now I just have to wait for the letter confirming the ceremony. Probably August 30 or 31.

It took about 3 minutes on Wed. which helps make up for how long the process has taken so far. May 2006 I sent in the application and all accompanying pieces. I didn't think the 12-18 months was realistic. silly me!

Vacation continues to go well for Melissa. We have her here until August 14th! I have enjoyed 2 weeks vacation so far, well mostly 2 weeks back in the office yesterday and for about an hour today. A few days here and there to match Colleen's days off and Melissa's schedule.

Monday, July 16, 2007

I'M 57

Well no BIG party but still a very good day.

Time with Melissa. Time with Colleen. And time with Parker and Shawna. We had a GREAT visit. Melissa and I bought caramel turtle pie, Italian rum cake and butter pecan and chocolate banana brownie ice creams. Yep a bit unusual but then so am I. Brenda, sorry I missed you.

For those concerned no word from Jay and Julie. Please continue to pray for wisdom and an open heart as we seek God's guidance.

Continue to love those around you and if you are holding your self back from someone BE BOLD step forward in love and caring. No rift or hurt is too much to resolve and heal.

Peace out!

A Dynamic week

Not in the usual sense of dynamic, but it is becoming my usual week!

A work colleague and friend, Margo Reekie passed away last Saturday after only a 6 or 7 month battle with cancer. She had a special way of touching people in a personal way through work, volunteer and as an example as a mother and wife.

Another work colleague and friend had his diligence and integrity rewarded this week as he was successful in the selection of a new Associate Vice President at the University. Colin Tennent represents strength, perseverance and integrity in all I have seen him do.

OH AND MELISSA IS HOME FOR 5 WEEKS. well okay here since home for her is Kaohsiung. We have kept our plans to a minimum so far so we can relax together rather than just run a different race!

HAPPY JULY TO ALL. oh by the way my birthday is on the 16th in case anybody wants to celebrate. There isn't a party though, 57 year olds don't get a party!!

Jessica turned 7

I started this blog in recognition of our grandson Alexander, but I have many Pride and Joy people in my life. Jessica, Lecia and Brendan's youngest, Elizabeth and Neil's second oldest grandchild turned 7 this week.
She opened presents as people arrrived. A very nice touch and then we could focus on cake and ice cream. 3 kinds of each!

Father's Day 2007

Let me start with one key aspect from my Mother's Day post. If you have not spoken with your father recently I URGE YOU TO RIGHT NOW.

Father's are strange creatures! Most of us have a very tender heart but seldom show it. As much as we are strong we are also too weak to say or do many of those things we should have as fathers to our sons and daughters. We need to connect with our kids often.

The last several months have had life changing questions and as yet have no answers or significant developments. None are health related! I continue to trust in God's sovereignty and guidance for my life. Oh, there are days that are down and a struggle but God is good and provides strength

Monday, June 11, 2007

hmm 2 weeks no post

Well not terribly busy, just distracted.

Melissa will be home for a visit in less than 4 weeks!

Life continues.

I survived the Power Hour Grade 5 sleepover. Even when 4 boys decided to pull an all nighter. Pretty quiet until the sun came up around 4 am and they could see 2 deer across the field. That meant get them out so the others had enough quiet to sleep. Who would have thought they would be willing to pick up mini marshmallows that had been out all night. We used marshmallow shooters similar to this (blowers - no alcohol involved)http://www.curriculumconnection.net/marshmallowgun.htm

Life continues, work, eat, rest, feed the internet addiction.

Love and encourgement to all

One more Welcome

I AM PROUD OF MY KIDS

Lest any wonder with my recent anguish I am VERY PROUD of Melissa , Jay and Julie.

Not much more needs to be said. Some things we do not understand and so must trust in God's direction. It is so much easier to trust when the questions are small and short lived.

This morning Power Hour talked about what interferes with hearing God. I know some of our recent turmoil has made it difficult to hear God speaking to us.

May Long Weekend and Rainy

Well some consider this the Saskatchewan signal for safe garden planting....pretty cool yet.

I was encouraged by a few things this week. The comment from Rosydot, a thank you card from one of the Power Hour kids. I don't think Danielle has ever been in one of my small groups , but my practise of talking with the kids personally and getting to know aspects of their lives has struck a chord in her heart. And also this morning Aran asked what happened to Jeremy, he had been his small group leader 3 years ago! I was able to connect Aran and Jeremy after the service, super cool. (school, marriage and baby happened)

We had an inpromptu gathering Sunday evening with Jen, Roger and Ben and Paul, Christa, Jude and Owen. So here are a couple of my favourite boys (Jude and Owen) and a new one(Ben). Too bad Alex isn't available.

Mother's Day 2007

All mothers deserve honour! If yours is still living please make sure you recognize her more than just today. Those of you such as me whose mothers are no longer with us I urge you to reflect on the positive influence she had on your life.

I know some have not had the blessing of a mother who showed love and nurturing and for that I am truly sorry you but do not be discouraged rather look around you and see the opportunities you have to show that which you did not receive.

I also urge you to draw encourgement from God through those around you.

If you have failed to talk to your mother recently I VERY STRONGLY urge you to talk to her this week. You will be rewarded. Perhaps not immediately, but you will be rewarded.

My First Day

Wow starting my 32nd year at the U of S.

Not sure how to comment. I expect to have my position phased out before the end of 2007. It has been a bit tough dealing with discussions and yet not be able to influence any timing. The options are interesting and exciting but unclear. Taiwan is VERY high on the list. I am not in control but I KNOW God will provide.

God's blessings and banquet

Well this week didn't feel as daunting as some of the recent ones.

We have completed our Power Hour series on God's blessings and Pastor Brad finished the OMG series talking about the similarity the range of food at a banquet has to God's plan for us, comparing vegetables to the teaching and red meat, potatoes and desserts to the bountiful blessings from God. I'm sure glad I have been getting a little bit of dessert in the midst of this high fibre vegetable diet of the last 4 months!

God continues to bless me with good health and a steady income a loving wife that can cook very well. And I got the water feature tidy and running this afternoon so that satisfaction and marvel is one of my Sabbath moments today.

Yes, I am getting emotionally worn by events but continue to trust God's timing and leading. As each of you go through your day clearly identify and acknowledge God's handiwork and blessings around you. Please remember the facts and do not be misguided by your doubts or fears.

a week of blessings

This month we are talking about blessings in Power Hour and I have had a week where some moments it was difficult to remember the blessings because the details were so tough to deal with.
But then I remember I have had a secure, well paying job for more than 30 years.
I have a loving wife.
I can chat with my daughter in Taiwan 2 times almost every day.
I am healthy, well pretty healthy for a sedentary guy like me.
I get to read aboutDarren and Shona's new family as it takes shape in Kyiv.
Last night we got to meet a marvelous young woman who has suffered great physical trauma due to a gasoline fire injury 7 years ago and she has been able to see how good God is as she has experienced the losses, healing, help from others and God's support.

God is SO good if we are patient enough to see His support through others. And his provision for our needs in so many ways that we cannot even imagine.

just showing I'm still here and thinking

just living regular life.

God loves me, my wife loves me and likes me most of the time, I love my kids, daughter in law and grandson.

Life could be better, but is still REAL GOOD.

I have a friend who is going to National Institute for Health in Maryland for another assessment for LAM. Please pray for Lois and remember to pray for those you know who are in need of any type of support or encouragement. Take the challenge!

Easter Sunday 2007

After a morning at church celebrating Jesus' resurrection we gathered at Nickel's for family food, fun and fellowhsip.

Sabrina and Darren posing

Sabrina chowing down !!!
Lecia and Libby, Jude, Jessica, Misha

Surveying the spoils

Sabrina AGAIN ! She was everywhere! Nice smile from Owen's Nana.
Owen Honking and beeping Uncle Steve

Lecia's cupcakes were the visual hit!! See all the desserts?

HALLELULLAH CHRIST IS RISEN

Not more can be said. Jesus is the central figure of the world!

Today marks the celebration of Jesus conquering the grip of sin in peoples's lives. We are still subject to sin, but the penalty for sin has been paid in full. We still have the earthly consequence of our actions against people but the signal from God is love and total forgiveness.

If this is not clear for you please explore this question with me or another Christian influence in your life.

an introspective week --sort of---Palm Sunday should be

Interesting how blogging has started to create a feeling of obligation to post frequently. Now to the title..........

Well not totally introspective, but maybe a bit more than usual. This week had a lot of the same old day in day out things the way all of us do. Well, not many would be part of bowling with 73 Grade 6-8 kids and then 35 K-5 kids. Yep I was tired.

On Tuesday one of our Alpha group members didn't attend because she slid back in to some old habits for a few days. Her habit just happens to be more visible to those around her than mine and probably those of anyone reading this. Many times in the last few weeks I have seen various sayings about each failure being the stepping stone for the next success or that success is built on failures. Not so easily done or felt.

Palm Sunday--talk about a time to revisit purpose and actions! As we were singing worship songs this morning I realized I have been too busy with various dimensions and concerns of my life to allow God to speak to me and support me.

As you read this please pray for someone in your life that looks like they are managing everything. We probably are only 2 or 3 bad days away from collapse. Maybe more, but maybe not.

Use this week to refresh your vision of God and Jesus' role in your life. Attend a Good Friday service and then the celebration of His resurrection on Sunday.

another week of ease and challenges

We have a good life. Sure we have our issues and challenges that wear us out and down, but we have been able to host visiting family members, share time with friends and family and not once did we encounter any danger. Our marrige is healthy. Our income is secure. Our kids and grandson are healthy. We have a great church. A MARVELOUS GOD!

And it's spring in Saskatchewan!

The Winter Season for the Soul

Interesting presentation at church tonight..........
We don't often talk about sorrow and pain at Lakeview. The worship singing and messages met Colleen and I right where we have been living the last several months.

Thomas Miller opened talking about the winter he has been going through the last 11 months. Don Pogoda talked about silence and quiet and listening. Carmen Schock walked us though Job and tying it into her personal life. As we move forward through the uncertainty of our relationship with Jay and Julie God will continue to support and strengthen us.

A nice family evening

Tony, Arlin and Brennen came down to visit Parker and Shawna so we had them over for dinner Sunday evening. They had a full day going to PA to visit Grandma.

Brennen is such a HAPPY little boy.

And Parker and Shawna are the perfect Auntie and Uncle!

We didn't hear from Jay and Julie. We missed them. Please pray that we will remain patient and God will place the people in their lives and ours to help rebuild our connection.

How was your week?

Interesting that one of the girls I have known for a few years asked me that question at Alpha tonight. My week was good. Hmm was that right? Maybe, but as I reflect on my answer there have been a mixture of events . A couple meetings I would rather not had, but needed. Many meetings and phone calls which are just a part of working. Good food. A good wife. Chats with Melissa, Lois May, my small group boys, Deb Welter. Good family connections, one birth and one death..

My week was good!

Feb 22nd has been quite a day!

Today is an around the world day.

In Asia there is new member in the clan. Congratulations to Heather, and her husband, Vincent on the birth of their first baby! Atticus Vincent Lu was born on February 22, 2007 at 10:31AM in Taipei, Taiwan. He weighs 8 lbs, 4 oz. Grandma Gerrie got there on the 20th so she sure had good timing.

In Courtney B.C. we had one member pass away today. Auntie Lois died at home. Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.

Here in Saskatoon we are expecting another big snowfall. Probably not the newsmaker of January 10th, but it sure has people talking about emergency preparedness.

Oh an interesting note, on this date Feb 22nd 1948 Beulah (Breeden) Meeds, aunt to Lois, passed away. She was one of 6 sisters in the Breeden-Royce-Meeds family connection. It was complex then and has only gotten more complex. After 36 years I have some of it straight. Oh and when we were in PA this past weekend we discovered some notes written by Colleen's Grandma Carrie listing some of the who was born when and where. Wow it was something to see Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska mentioned. It could be my family history. We’re safe. None of the towns or family names match up so were not likely 4th cousins!

Enjoy the laugh. Make it a hearty one so you get the health benefit.

another week another trip to PA

Well maybe not just that, but we got back from PA less than an hour ago and I am feeling the effects of diving 90 minutes, not sleeping well last night, wife, and mother-in-law. Not sure which order, oh and of course the effects of me being who I am so it's not just their fault.

Let's see the last week I've seen one of our young friends looking pregnant, but I'm NOT saying who until I hear it. Don turned 50, Sandy turned "not that old". Bryer will be 22 on Tuesday. We saw Linda and Maurice at Fudds' Saturday and shared bkfst. Sat. afternoon I shovelled some snow off our roof. 4 ft from the edge the snow was knee deep! AND the eaves trough has 8 inches of ice buildup hopefully it will melt without creating a problem.

I'll try to post mid week so I'm not rambling and give a few more thoughts. I'm sure glad I get to chat with Melissa several times a week. It keeps me sane.

Happy Valentine's Day

I feel obligated to espouse on my spouse, but she would be embarrassed so I won't.

Now I challenge you to look back into what Valentine's day really celebrates. Once you know let me know and then we all may feel a bit less disappointed in the grandeur of the marketing surrounding it.

well another week flew by

Wow, hardly seems that long.

Let's see COLD

Last week work involved reviewing decimal, binary and hexadecimal numbering sytems as we prepare to be able to assign IP addresses.

ALPHA on Tuesday night

COLD

Wednesday monthly lunch meeting with two coworker's Dragon's Diner at hwy 5 and 42.

COLD

COLD

Zou Friday night Wahoo full gym space

Saturday was nice for us both to be off and have a nice slow brkfst of waffles and sausage then I got some more done on the corner unit in the family room so Colleen could show the house to her coworkers Sunday.

Sunday church was great and then rush home so Colleen could get ready for hosting coworker's bridal shower. Then I washed the car, parked underground and wandered, lunched in Circle Centre mall and watched "Unaccompanied Minors" movie. Easy empty brain amusing show about pre and early teens snow bound in an airport at Christmas. I got home just as they were walking to their cars. Do I know women!? COLD-sort of watched the Grammy show. slipped to another tv and caught parts of Sniper 2 movie and Brothers and Sisters tv show. I enjoy music, but tolerate award shows in favour of my wife.

COLD looks like tomorrow will be around -23, hmm Melissa mentioned that 2 nights ago it was too warm so she kicked off the covers. I have a tough time feeling sorry.

Carnival and FIRST services in new Sanctuary

Wow 4 hours of Carnival on Saturday with close to a thousand people through food, gym, gallery and other rooms.

Then the weekend worship led by Corwin. Our camera and low lighting mean 3 hard to see pictures.

Pastor Dean spoke about how this is just the beginning of the next phase of development. These church walls are not the objective, they provide the foundation for working outside and beyond to serve God working in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and the world.

And then at the end of the service people walked across the stage with phrases of loss and brokenness which turned in to phrases of love and acceptance.

Tail end of another week

well 3 1/2 weeks since the blizzard of '07 and -25 with wind! BRRRRRR

Lakeview has Grand Opening weekend. I have mixed feelings about the Gala Supper tomorrow night, but support I will and be there. THEN SATURDAY IS CARNIVAL!!! Yahoo! 4 hours of kids and games.

And for you that think this 56 year old is crazy, you're right. But I'm having fun.

Jerrod, Susan and Suhky's son, is here this weekend for Med school residency interviews. It's always a pleasure to host him and hear of his latest adventures and conquests.

We miss seeing Jay, Julie and Alex more often. Saturday will be 3 weeks since Jay dropped Alex off for 4 hours. Please pray for every body's wisdom and patience.

Check Melissa's blog through the link to see her 3 dogs! All seem pretty fantastic for her. And warm for here even though cold for there.

January 26th, 2007

Well another work week almost done.

Went to the Friday Birk's Breakfast Club this morning. I took the car to get a noise checked out. Probably the front bearing on the alternator that was replaced in July! Kal Tire must shudder when I call. Oh and time for the 10K km tire rotation too. I didn't expect to be able to get the car in this afternoon.

Colleen's Mom had another laser eye surgery this morning so maybe we will go to PA tomorrow after all. Other wise same old exciting but boring stuff in our lives. Getting older, but not making hospital or doctor trips.

Oh Melissa got a blog comment from Dewey Wriston about a family photo. I think he is one of my Dad's cousins. It will take while to sort that out.

Have a great weekend.

Newly Weds

36 years ago we were freshly married for about 3 hours. A lot of things have happened since then!

This is just our housing: 6 months in Bismarck ND and the remainder in Saskatoon. 9 places in the first 7 years, built our own house and then really only have one wall in this house that hasn't been modified in some way. I, like this house, am continually being improved by Colleen.

Shinny 2007 as promised

Well I loaded a video of the NewYears Day Shinny game to Mydeo. This link should be amusing, but I expect it to expire Feb 8th.
